Rural Hub pubs top 350

Pub Is The Hub rural regeneration projects have officially passed the 350 mark following the opening of a new post office at the Tree Inn, Stratton, near Bude, in Cornwall.

Longden: major milestone

Licensees Bob and Emma Simple have converted a disused building in the pub’s courtyard to provide the post office facilities.

The couple now hope to build on their new business by opening a farm shop selling locally-produced goods. Local residents turned to the Simples when the village post office closed its doors, and the pub project was made possible thanks to joint funding by the Post Office and the licensees themselves.

Hub director John Longden said: “The project at the Tree Inn was a major milestone for us and we are already working on a number of other schemes in the south west to open new facilities in rural pubs.”
